Panui - Term 1, Week 6, 2024
What an amazing time our tamariki had out at the Patea Dam. We did strike a couple of wet days but nothing we couldn't take in our stride! I would just like to extend our appreciation and give a huge Tawhiti thanks to the following people…
- Jeremy, Miss Carlson, and Jonesy - for EVERYTHING! This experience would not be possible without you.
- Our PTA - the generous donations you put towards this camp each year makes it affordable and ensures we can keep it going year after year.
- Tim Reid, Matty King, Paul Riddle, Tim Dwyer, Blair Doyle. Thank you for bringing your boats out. Tubing is always the favourite activity!!!
- Our parent helpers (especially the ones who endured the rain and mud )
- Chris Pick - thanks for your help with set up, pack down, and getting gear to and from camp
- Becky and Emma - your organisation behind the scenes keeps everything ticking along
- And my Dad! You keep us fed, watered and the kitchen humming!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Now bring on our junior Te Wera trips next week...
We have been overwhelmed with the support we have received for our Nothing Naughty Bar fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who sold these. If you have forgotten to get your form back or deposit your money, Monday is fine. We will process the orders and get these sent away next week.
'Te Mārae' - Term 2 unit of learning
Next term our unit of learning is 'Te Marae'. This unit is based on the Aotearoa Histories Curriculum and we're headed back out to Taiporohēnui Pa to immerse our kids in a rich bicultural experience. The planned date for this wānangā is the 13th and 14th of June (Week 7 of Term, 2)
Ka Hiwa Rā! Ka Hiwa Rā!
In order to prepare for this wānangā, we'd like to extend an invite to our school whānau to be part of the planning process and kōrero relating to what could be covered as part of this experience. We would love your support to make this wānanga/learning experience a memorable one.

- We would love any whānau support with hangi preparation on Saturday 6th April as well as help handing out kai on Sunday 7th April. If you are able to support with either of these please make contact with our PTA president Ruiha Berry.
- On Friday 22nd March the PTA are having a Pizza lunch fundraiser. $2 per slice of pizza. The money raised will be used to purchase the kai for the hangi so buy up large!
- Hangi tickets will be on sale soon and details will be communicated via HERO and facebook.
Rippa Rugby
We currently have lots of Rippa happening in our PE lessons with coach Finn Crawford as well as at lunchtimes. We have 7 teams representing Tawhiti at the Southern League on Thursday nights. A big thank you to all of our sport heroes for stepping in to coach/manage these teams. We are lucky to have great whanau support!
Senior Swimming
Wow what a day! The entries doubled from last year. Over 80 students participated in the Senior Swimming Sports on Wednesday the 21st of February. There were many outstanding results and personal best efforts. Thank you to everyone who came along to support and received jobs on the day.
Spragg Banner is on 13th March at the Hawera Aquatic Centre. The Spragg Banner team have been given permission forms - can we please have these back ASAP. Please note: The Spragg Banner events are different from our school swimming sport events so a placing in our swimming sports does not automatically mean your child will be attending Spragg Banner.
Netball Registrations Open
Netball is played down at the Hawera Hub every Saturday during Term 2. The tamariki will be played in these year levels; Yr 1/2, Yr 3/4 and Yr 5/6. There is a cost for yr 5/6 of $35 which can be paid to the office or online. Please read the Ts and Cs for the account number.

There are currently meetings happening between schools and Netball Taranaki with the hope of moving Netball to an after school competition as well as reviewing the structure/rules for our senior players. We will keep you informed in this space.
Our current attendance statistics...
- 70% (209 children) have been attending school regularly (90%+ of time)
- We have 90 children who currently have an attendance rate less than 90%
- We have 83 children with 100% attendance...well done to those learners! Keep it up and see if you can make the whole term.
